Have pity on me, have pity on me, O you my friends, for the hand of God has touched me!

Insults have broken my heart, so that I am in despair. I looked for pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none.

Moses went out to meet his father-in-law, and did obeisance and kissed him; and they asked each other of their welfare, and went into the tent.

These two things have befallen you— who will condole with you?— devastation and destruction, famine and sword; who will comfort you?

He shall smite them with the edge of the sword; he shall not pity them, or spare them, or have compassion.’

Zion stretches out her hands, but there is none to comfort her; the Lord has commanded against Jacob that his neighbors should be his foes; Jerusalem has become a filthy thing among them.

And all who look on you will shrink from you and say, Wasted is Nineveh; who will bemoan her? whence shall I seek comforters for her?

And they turned aside thither, and came to the house of the young Levite, at the home of Micah, and asked him of his welfare.

And they will greet you and give you two loaves of bread, which you shall accept from their hand.

And David left the things in charge of the keeper of the baggage, and ran to the ranks, and went and greeted his brothers.

So David sent ten young men; and David said to the young men, “Go up to Carmel, and go to Nabal, and greet him in my name.
