At last Daniel came in before me—he who was named Belteshazzar after the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods—and I told him the dream, saying,

They did not say, ‘Where is the Lord who brought us up from the land of Egypt, who led us in the wilderness, in a land of deserts and pits, in a land of drought and deep darkness, in a land that none passes through, where no man dwells?’

Look down from heaven and see, from thy holy and glorious habitation. Where are thy zeal and thy might? The yearning of thy heart and thy compassion are withheld from me.

I remember the days of old, I meditate on all that thou hast done; I muse on what thy hands have wrought.

Be mindful of thy mercy, O Lord, and of thy steadfast love, for they have been from of old.

Thou gavest thy good Spirit to instruct them, and didst not withhold thy manna from their mouth, and gavest them water for their thirst.

Thus the Lord saved Israel that day from the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the seashore.

Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant,

Cast me not away from thy presence, and take not thy holy Spirit from me.

He rebuked the Red Sea, and it became dry; and he led them through the deep as through a desert.

Nevertheless he regarded their distress, when he heard their cry.

He remembered for their sake his covenant, and relented according to the abundance of his steadfast love.

Thus says the Lord, who makes a way in the sea, a path in the mighty waters,

But they rebelled and grieved his holy Spirit; therefore he turned to be their enemy, and himself fought against them.

By a prophet the Lord brought Israel up from Egypt, and by a prophet he was preserved.

“In that day I will raise up the booth of David that is fallen and repair its breaches, and raise up its ruins, and rebuild it as in the days of old;

And Gideon said to him, “Pray, sir, if the Lord is with us, why then has all this befallen us? And where are all his wonderful deeds which our fathers recounted to us, saying, ‘Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the Lord has cast us off, and given us into the hand of Midian.”

I will meditate on all thy work, and muse on thy mighty deeds.

Then he led forth his people like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.
