Woe to those who rise early in the morning, that they may run after strong drink, who tarry late into the evening till wine inflames them!

I am this day eighty years old; can I discern what is pleasant and what is not? Can your servant taste what he eats or what he drinks? Can I still listen to the voice of singing men and singing women? Why then should your servant be an added burden to my lord the king?

Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler; and whoever is led astray by it is not wise.

At the last it bites like a serpent, and stings like an adder.

and behold, joy and gladness, slaying oxen and killing sheep, eating flesh and drinking wine. “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.”

No more do they drink wine with singing; strong drink is bitter to those who drink it.

Woe to him who makes his neighbors drink of the cup of his wrath, and makes them drunk, to gaze on their shame!

Moreover, wine is treacherous; the arrogant man shall not abide. His greed is as wide as Sheol; like death he has never enough. He gathers for himself all nations, and collects as his own all peoples.”

“But take heed to yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a snare;

let us conduct ourselves becomingly as in the day, not in reveling and drunkenness, not in debauchery and licentiousness, not in quarreling and jealousy.

nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor robbers will inherit the kingdom of God.

envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
