Behold, the Lord, the Lord of hosts will lop the boughs with terrifying power; the great in height will be hewn down, and the lofty will be brought low.

And the Lord sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty warriors and commanders and officers in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he came into the house of his god, some of his own sons struck him down there with the sword.

For before the harvest, when the blossom is over, and the flower becomes a ripening grape, he will cut off the shoots with pruning hooks, and the spreading branches he will hew away.

And the forest will utterly go down, and the city will be utterly laid low.

At the thunderous noise peoples flee, at the lifting up of thyself nations are scattered;

And as he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, Adrammelech and Sharezer, his sons, slew him with the sword, and escaped into the land of Ararat. And Esar-haddon his son reigned in his stead.

Man is bowed down, and men are brought low, and the eyes of the haughty are humbled.

I will prepare destroyers against you, each with his weapons; and they shall cut down your choicest cedars, and cast them into the fire.

Behold, I will liken you to a cedar in Lebanon, with fair branches and forest shade, and of great height, its top among the clouds.

Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven; for all his works are right and his ways are just; and those who walk in pride he is able to abase.

“Yet I destroyed the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars, and who was as strong as the oaks; I destroyed his fruit above, and his roots beneath.

Thus says the Lord, “Though they be strong and many, they will be cut off and pass away. Though I have afflicted you, I will afflict you no more.

For every one who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
