So she said to Abraham, “Cast out this slave woman with her son; for the son of this slave woman shall not be heir with my son Isaac.”

The slave does not continue in the house for ever; the son continues for ever.

They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out, that it might be plain that they all are not of us.

and to an inheritance which is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you,

So through God you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son then an heir.

For if the inheritance is by the law, it is no longer by promise; but God gave it to Abraham by a promise.

Abraham said, “I did it because I thought, There is no fear of God at all in this place, and they will kill me because of my wife.

But I will establish my covenant with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to you at this season next year.”

God said, “No, but Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasing covenant for his descendants after him.

Drive out a scoffer, and strife will go out, and quarreling and abuse will cease.

And Gilead's wife also bore him sons; and when his wife's sons grew up, they thrust Jephthah out, and said to him, “You shall not inherit in our father's house; for you are the son of another woman.”
