Your rowers have brought you out into the high seas. The east wind has wrecked you in the heart of the seas.

By the east wind thou didst shatter the ships of Tarshish.

As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the Lord of hosts, in the city of our God, which God establishes for ever. Selah

Wail, O ships of Tarshish, for your stronghold is laid waste.

Your tackle hangs loose; it cannot hold the mast firm in its place, or keep the sail spread out. Then prey and spoil in abundance will be divided; even the lame will take the prey.

Like the east wind I will scatter them before the enemy. I will show them my back, not my face, in the day of their calamity.”

“For thus says the Lord God: When I make you a city laid waste, like the cities that are not inhabited, when I bring up the deep over you, and the great waters cover you,

Your riches, your wares, your merchandise, your mariners and your pilots, your caulkers, your dealers in merchandise, and all your men of war who are in you, with all your company that is in your midst, sink into the heart of the seas on the day of your ruin.

Now you are wrecked by the seas, in the depths of the waters; your merchandise and all your crew have sunk with you.

They shall thrust you down into the Pit, and you shall die the death of the slain in the heart of the seas.

But soon a tempestuous wind, called the northeaster, struck down from the land;

But striking a shoal they ran the vessel aground; the bow stuck and remained immovable, and the stern was broken up by the surf.

And he said to me, “The waters that you saw, where the harlot is seated, are peoples and multitudes and nations and tongues.
