The murderer rises in the dark, that he may kill the poor and needy; and in the night he is as a thief.

In the dark they dig through houses; by day they shut themselves up; they do not know the light.

They are driven out from among men; they shout after them as after a thief.

Also on your skirts is found the lifeblood of guiltless poor; you did not find them breaking in. Yet in spite of all these things

when I would heal Israel, the corruption of Ephraim is revealed, and the wicked deeds of Samaria; for they deal falsely, the thief breaks in, and the bandits raid without.

They leap upon the city, they run upon the walls; they climb up into the houses, they enter through the windows like a thief.

and the avenger of blood finds him outside the bounds of his city of refuge, and the avenger of blood slays the manslayer, he shall not be guilty of blood.

But know this, that if the householder had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have watched and would not have let his house be broken into.

For you yourselves know well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.

But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or a wrongdoer, or a mischief-maker;
