The time that the people of Israel dwelt in Egypt was four hundred and thirty years.

Then the Lord said to Abram, “Know of a surety that your descendants will be sojourners in a land that is not theirs, and will be slaves there, and they will be oppressed for four hundred years;

And they shall come back here in the fourth generation; for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete.”

Come, I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring forth my people, the sons of Israel, out of Egypt.”

The God of this people Israel chose our fathers and made the people great during their stay in the land of Egypt, and with uplifted arm he led them out of it.

And God spoke to this effect, that his posterity would be aliens in a land belonging to others, who would enslave them and ill-treat them four hundred years.

By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise.
