For before these days Theudas arose, giving himself out to be somebody, and a number of men, about four hundred, joined him; but he was slain and all who followed him were dispersed and came to nothing.

For false Christs and false prophets will arise and show great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.

So, if they say to you, ‘Lo, he is in the wilderness,’ do not go out; if they say, ‘Lo, he is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it.

For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and they will lead many astray.

Are you not the Egyptian, then, who recently stirred up a revolt and led the four thousand men of the Assassins out into the wilderness?”

And he said to them, “Men of Israel, take care what you do with these men.

But there was a man named Simon who had previously practiced magic in the city and amazed the nation of Samaria, saying that he himself was somebody great.

And from those who were reputed to be something (what they were makes no difference to me; God shows no partiality)—those, I say, who were of repute added nothing to me;

For if any one thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.

For, uttering loud boasts of folly, they entice with licentious passions of the flesh men who have barely escaped from those who live in error.

And many will follow their licentiousness, and because of them the way of truth will be reviled.

These are grumblers, malcontents, following their own passions, loud-mouthed boasters, flattering people to gain advantage.

And he carried me away in the Spirit into a wilderness, and I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast which was full of blasphemous names, and it had seven heads and ten horns.

and on her forehead was written a name of mystery: “Babylon the great, mother of harlots and of earth's abominations.”
