After three months we set sail in a ship which had wintered in the island, a ship of Alexandria, with the Twin Brothers as figurehead.

“Assemble yourselves and come, draw near together, you survivors of the nations! They have no knowledge who carry about their wooden idols, and keep on praying to a god that cannot save.

Then the men feared the Lord exceedingly, and they offered a sacrifice to the Lord and made vows.

Then the mariners were afraid, and each cried to his god; and they threw the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it for them. But Jonah had gone down into the inner part of the ship and had lain down, and was fast asleep.

When they had gone through the whole island as far as Paphos, they came upon a certain magician, a Jewish false prophet, named Bar-Jesus.

There the centurion found a ship of Alexandria sailing for Italy, and put us on board.

They presented many gifts to us; and when we sailed, they put on board whatever we needed.

Putting in at Syracuse, we stayed there for three days.

Then some of those who belonged to the synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called), and of the Cyrenians, and of the Alexandrians, and of those from Cilicia and Asia, arose and disputed with Stephen.

Hence, as to the eating of food offered to idols, we know that “an idol has no real existence,” and that “there is no God but one.”
