The very night when Herod was about to bring him out, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries before the door were guarding the prison;

Then the tribune came up and arrested him, and ordered him to be bound with two chains. He inquired who he was and what he had done.

Hence we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid; what can man do to me?”

May the Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me; he was not ashamed of my chains,

for which I am an ambassador in chains; that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.

And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men.

So Abraham called the name of that place The Lord will provide; as it is said to this day, “On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”

I would have said, “I will scatter them afar, I will make the remembrance of them cease from among men,”

The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord after Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had let him go from Ramah, when he took him bound in chains along with all the captives of Jerusalem and Judah who were being exiled to Babylon.

So Peter was kept in prison; but earnest prayer for him was made to God by the church.
