And Abner said to Joab, “Let the young men arise and play before us.” And Joab said, “Let them arise.”

Then Abner called to Joab, “Shall the sword devour for ever? Do you not know that the end will be bitter? How long will it be before you bid your people turn from the pursuit of their brethren?”

So Joab blew the trumpet; and all the men stopped, and pursued Israel no more, nor did they fight any more.

Now then, my lord, as the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, seeing the Lord has restrained you from bloodguilt, and from taking vengeance with your own hand, now then let your enemies and those who seek to do evil to my lord be as Nabal.
