Then said Ahima-az the son of Zadok, “Let me run, and carry tidings to the king that the Lord has delivered him from the power of his enemies.”

The king also said to Zadok the priest, “Look, go back to the city in peace, you and Abiathar, with your two sons, Ahima-az your son, and Jonathan the son of Abiathar.

Behold, their two sons are with them there, Ahima-az, Zadok's son, and Jonathan, Abiathar's son; and by them you shall send to me everything you hear.”

Now Jonathan and Ahima-az were waiting at En-rogel; a maidservant used to go and tell them, and they would go and tell King David; for they must not be seen entering the city.

And Joab said to him, “You are not to carry tidings today; you may carry tidings another day, but today you shall carry no tidings, because the king's son is dead.”

“Come what may,” he said, “I will run.” So he said to him, “Run.” Then Ahima-az ran by the way of the plain, and outran the Cushite.

And behold, the Cushite came; and the Cushite said, “Good tidings for my lord the king! For the Lord has delivered you this day from the power of all who rose up against you.”

Thou dost see; yea, thou dost note trouble and vexation, that thou mayst take it into thy hands; the hapless commits himself to thee; thou hast been the helper of the fatherless.

to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed, so that man who is of the earth may strike terror no more.

Arise, O Lord, in thy anger, lift thyself up against the fury of my enemies; awake, O my God; thou hast appointed a judgment.

The Lord has made himself known, he has executed judgment; the wicked are snared in the work of their own hands. Higgaion. Selah

For thou hast maintained my just cause; thou hast sat on the throne giving righteous judgment.

One runner runs to meet another, and one messenger to meet another, to tell the king of Babylon that his city is taken on every side;

Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God; for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”
