When Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his ass, and went off home to his own city. And he set his house in order, and hanged himself; and he died, and was buried in the tomb of his father.

And while Absalom was offering the sacrifices, he sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counselor, from his city Giloh. And the conspiracy grew strong, and the people with Absalom kept increasing.

And it was told David, “Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom.” And David said, “O Lord, I pray thee, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.”

Now in those days the counsel which Ahithophel gave was as if one consulted the oracle of God; so was all the counsel of Ahithophel esteemed, both by David and by Absalom.

Then David arose, and all the people who were with him, and they crossed the Jordan; by daybreak not one was left who had not crossed the Jordan.

And when Zimri saw that the city was taken, he went into the citadel of the king's house, and burned the king's house over him with fire, and died,

In those days Hezekiah became sick and was at the point of death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him, and said to him, “Thus says the Lord, ‘Set your house in order; for you shall die, you shall not recover.’ ”

Does not calamity befall the unrighteous, and disaster the workers of iniquity?

May this be the reward of my accusers from the Lord, of those who speak evil against my life!

In those days Hezekiah became sick and was at the point of death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him, and said to him, “Thus says the Lord: Set your house in order; for you shall die, you shall not recover.”

And throwing down the pieces of silver in the temple, he departed; and he went and hanged himself.
