But Elijah answered the captain of fifty, “If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty.” Then fire came down from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.

And when his disciples James and John saw it, they said, “Lord, do you want us to bid fire come down from heaven and consume them?”

He answered, “But I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they are not hurt; and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods.”

for our God is a consuming fire.

Because the king's order was strict and the furnace very hot, the flame of the fire slew those men who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

but they kept mocking the messengers of God, despising his words, and scoffing at his prophets, till the wrath of the Lord rose against his people, till there was no remedy.

And Micaiah said, “If you return in peace, the Lord has not spoken by me.” And he said, “Hear, all you peoples!”

And fire came forth from the Lord, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men offering the incense.

And the people complained in the hearing of the Lord about their misfortunes; and when the Lord heard it, his anger was kindled, and the fire of the Lord burned among them, and consumed some outlying parts of the camp.

Again the king sent to him another captain of fifty men with his fifty. And he went up and said to him, “O man of God, this is the king's order, ‘Come down quickly!’ ”

And fire came forth from the presence of the Lord and devoured them, and they died before the Lord.
