People who don’t believe might accuse you of doing wrong. But lead such good lives among them that they’ll see your good deeds and give glory to God on the day Jesus returns.

By doing good, you’ll stop to the talk of foolish people who don’t know what they’re saying. This is what God wants you to do.

Keep your conscience clear, so that even if people say bad things about you as believers in Christ, they’ll be ashamed when the way you live proves them wrong.

If someone teaches something different and doesn’t agree with the healthy instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and with godly teaching,

Take special note of anyone who doesn’t obey the teachings in our letter and then don’t have anything to do with them. Then they’ll feel ashamed.

So I encourage younger widows to get married again, have children, and take care of their own homes. That way the enemy won’t get the chance to say bad things about them.

When Jesus said this, all those who opposed him were put to shame. But the people were delighted. They loved all the wonderful things he was doing.

Jesus saw that the man had answered wisely, and he said to him, “You’re not far from the kingdom of God.” From then on, no one dared to ask Jesus any more questions.

“That’s a good answer, teacher,” the man replied. “You’re right to say that God is one and there’s no other God but him.

One of the teachers of the law had been listening to the discussion and he realized that Jesus had given a good answer. So he came up and asked him, “Which is the most important of all the commandments?”

Then Jesus told them, “Return to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and return to God what belongs to God.” They were amazed by this answer.

Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good. Then they’ll be able to take care of people who have urgent needs, and they won’t be living useless lives.
