Those who do live under the control of their wrong desires think about what sin wants. But those who live under the control of the Spirit think about what the Spirit wants.

The person who doesn’t have the Spirit doesn’t accept the things that come from the Spirit of God. Those things seem foolish to them, and they can’t understand them, because they can’t be understood without the Spirit’s help.

People give birth to people, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.

If the Spirit of God truly does live in you, you’re not ruled by your desires—you’re ruled by the Spirit. Anyone who doesn’t have the Spirit of Christ doesn’t belong to Christ.

Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, and then he firmly put Peter in his place. “Get behind me, Satan!” he said. “You’re not thinking about what God wants. You’re only thinking about what people want.”

I do live in the world, but I don’t fight my battles the way the people of the world do.

Most of all, this is true of people who are corrupted by their wrong desires and hate to be under authority. People like that are cocky and arrogant. They’re not afraid even to insult heavenly beings.

The light produces what is completely good, right, and true.

Those who belong to the earth are like the one who came from the earth, and those who are spiritual are like the one who came from heaven.

Those desires don’t want what the Spirit wants, and the Spirit doesn’t want what they want. The two are at war with each other, and that’s why you’re not supposed to do whatever you want.
