The Spirit that God has given us doesn’t make us weak and fearful. Instead, the Spirit gives us power, love, and self-control.

What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we can understand what God has freely given us.

The Spirit himself joins with our spirits to assure us that we are God’s children.

and set free people who were held as slaves all their lives by the fear of death.

he chose long ago to adopt us as his children through Jesus Christ. This was what God wanted to do, and it made him happy to do it.

He said, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup of suffering away from me. But do what you want, not what I want.”

When he comes, he will show the people of this world that they’re guilty of sin, that they can be made right with God, and that if they aren’t, they’ll face judgment.

The jailer called for some lights and fell down in front of Paul and Silas, shaking with fear.

When the people heard this, it struck them deeply in their hearts. They said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?”

Then all the people who lived in the land of the Gerasenes were so filled with fear that they asked Jesus to go away. So he got into the boat to leave.

When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell at his feet. He shouted at the top of his voice, “Jesus, Son of the Most High God, what do you want with me? I beg you, don’t torture me!”

Do you have faith that there’s one God? Good for you! Even the demons believe that, and they tremble!

In the same way, the Holy Spirit helps us when we are weak. We don’t know what we should pray for, but the Spirit himself prays for us with groans that are too deep for words.

They’ve been adopted as God’s children. God’s glory belongs to them, and so do the covenants. They received the law and they were taught to worship in the temple. They were given the promises,

If someone comes to you and preaches about a Jesus who’s different from the Jesus we preached about, or a spirit different from the Spirit you received, or a version of the good news that’s different from the one you accepted, you put up with those kinds of things easily enough.

That question came up because some false believers had slipped in among us to spy on the freedom we have in Christ Jesus. They wanted to make us slaves again.

Christ has set us free so that we can be free. So stand firm, and don’t let anyone make you a slave again.

So I was afraid, and I went and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’
