Once we were God’s enemies, but we were brought back to him through the death of his Son. And now that God has brought us back, how much more will we be saved through the life of his Son!
So he had to be made like them—fully human in every way. That way he could serve God as a merciful and faithful high priest and purify the people from their sins.
As far as the good news is concerned, the people of Israel are enemies, and this has been for your benefit. But as far as God’s choice is concerned, the people of Israel are loved because of God’s promises to the founders of their nation.
At one time we all lived among those things. We followed our wrong desires and thoughts, and we tried to satisfy what they wanted us to do. God was angry with us, as he was with everyone else, because of the kind of people we all were.
