And the Scripture came true that says, “Abraham believed God, and this was considered to make him right with God.” God even called Abraham his friend.

Is this blessing only for those who are circumcised, or is it also for those who aren’t circumcised? We’ve been saying Abraham was considered right with God because of his faith.

But if, rather than working, people trust in God who makes ungodly people right with himself, their faith makes them right with God.

He was circumcised as a sign, as an indication that his faith had already made him right with God before he was circumcised. So Abraham is the father of all who are made right with God by believing, even though they haven’t been circumcised.

God didn’t reject his people, the ones he knew ahead of time. Don’t you know what Scripture says in the story of Elijah? Elijah complained to God about Israel and said,

Scripture says, “The one who believes in him will never be put to shame.”

In Scripture, God says to Pharaoh, “I had a special reason for making you king. I decided to use you to show my power so that my name would become known everywhere on earth.”

Haven’t you read what this part of Scripture says? “ ‘The stone that the builders didn’t accept has become the most important stone of all.

Scripture says with good reason that God wants the spirit he put in us to belong only to him.

“When the workers who’d been hired at about five o’clock came in, each one was given the usual pay for a whole day.
