As it is written, “I have made you a father of many nations.” The God Abraham believed in considers him to be our father. This is the God who gives life to the dead and creates things that didn’t exist before.

God chose the things of this world that are common, and which are looked down on as if they were nothing, in order to discredit the things that are considered significant.

The Father raises the dead and gives them life; in the same way, the Son gives life to anyone he wishes.

Once you weren’t a people, but now you are the people of God. Once you hadn’t received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

The Spirit gives life; the flesh isn’t worth anything. The words I’ve spoken to you are full of the Spirit and they give life.

If the Spirit of the one who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, then the one who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.

But don’t forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.

By faith Noah, out of great respect for God, built an ark to save his family after God warned him about things that could not yet be seen. By doing this Noah showed the world that it was guilty, but he was considered right with God because of his faith.

Did he become right with God because of something he did? If so, he could brag about that (though he couldn’t brag to God).

Don’t think you’re safe just because you can say, ‘We come from Abraham.’ I tell you, God can raise up children for Abraham even from these stones.

Even though there was no reason for hope, Abraham still had hope, and he believed. That was how he became the father of many nations, exactly as God had promised. God had told him, “That is how many children you will have.”

But even before her twins were born, before they’d done anything good or bad, Rebekah was told, “The older son will serve the younger one.” This shows that God’s purpose was based firmly on his own choice, not on anything the children did.

By faith we understand that everything was made at God’s command, so that what we see was made out of what was not visible.
