If it’s encouraging others, then encourage them. If it’s giving, then give generously. If it’s being a leader, then do it diligently. If it’s showing mercy, then do it cheerfully.

Each of you should give what you’ve decided in your heart to give. You shouldn’t give if you don’t want to. You shouldn’t give because you feel you have to. God loves it when you’re glad to give.

Elders who lead the church well should be honored both with respect and with financial support. This is especially true of elders who preach and teach.

God has placed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, guiding, and speaking in different kinds of languages.

Have confidence in your leaders and put yourselves under their authority, because they’re keeping watch over you as people who will have to answer to God for everything they do. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden. It wouldn’t help you at all if you made their work more difficult.

Judas and Silas were prophets, and they said many things to encourage and strengthen the believers.

After someone read aloud from the Law and the Prophets, the leaders of the synagogue sent word to Paul and his group. They said, “Brothers, do you have any words of instruction for the people? If you do, please speak.”

Greet all your leaders and all the Lord’s people. The believers from Italy send you their greetings.

I ask you, brothers and sisters, to listen carefully to the challenges and encouragement that I’ve offered you briefly.

Remember your leaders, who spoke God’s word to you. Think about the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.

Let’s not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing. Instead, let’s encourage one another. And let’s meet and encourage one another even more as we see the day of Christ’s return approaching.

Do you really want to give? Then your gift will be measured by what you have, not by what you don’t.

But the person who prophesies speaks to people and makes them stronger, gives them hope, and comforts them.

Keep watch over yourselves and all the believers that the Holy Spirit has made you leaders over. Be shepherds of God’s church, which he bought with his own blood.

He traveled through that area, speaking many words of hope to the people. He arrived in Greece,

Until I come, I want you to concentrate on reading Scripture publicly and on encouraging and teaching others.

We loved you so much that we were happy to share with you not just God’s good news, but our own lives as well.

Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything. Don’t do it just to please them when they’re watching you. Obey them genuinely, out of respect for the Lord.

Slaves, obey your masters here on earth. Sincerely respect and honor them. Obey them as a way of obeying Christ.

But just as Eve’s mind was tricked by the snake’s clever lies, I’m afraid that your minds will also be led astray somehow from your true and pure love for Christ.

You will have shown that you’re dependable by what you’ve given. Other people will praise God because you’ve obeyed him and shown that you really do believe the good news about Christ. They’ll also praise God because you’ve shared so freely with them and with everyone else.

You’ll be made rich in every way so that you can always give freely. We will bring your generous gifts to the people who need them, and they’ll give thanks to God.

With God’s help, we’ve acted toward everyone, and especially toward you, honorably and honestly. We can say that with pride and a clear conscience. We’ve depended on God’s grace and not on the world’s wisdom.

You must also pay taxes for the same reason. The authorities are working full time for God as rulers, and they need to be supported.

Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Welcome one another into your homes.

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

When the governor saw what had happened, he believed. He was amazed by the teaching about the Lord.

One person who did this was Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus. The apostles called him Barnabas, which means Son of Encouragement.

Barnabas was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith. When he arrived and saw what God’s grace had done, he was very happy. He told them all to remain true to the Lord with their whole hearts. Even more people came to know the Lord.

Command them to do what is good and to be rich in doing good things, to give freely, and to be willing to share.
