So let me ask something else: The Israelites didn’t trip and fall so badly that they could never get up, did they? Not at all! Rather, because Israel went wrong, the Gentiles are being saved, and that should make Israel jealous of them.

In the same way, Israel hasn’t been obeying God, but now they can receive mercy because of God’s mercy to you.

But if Israel’s going wrong has brought riches to the world, and their loss has brought riches to the Gentiles, how much greater riches will come when all Israel turns back to God!

Again I ask, “Didn’t Israel understand?” First, Moses says, “I will use people who aren’t a nation to make you jealous. I’ll use a nation that has no understanding to make you angry.”

I hope that somehow I can stir up my own people to want what you have. That way maybe some of them will be saved.

But when they opposed Paul and treated him badly, he shook out his clothes in protest. He told them, “God’s judgment against you will be your own fault! Don’t blame me for it! From now on, I will go to the Gentiles.”

But let me ask, did God reject his people? Not at all! I myself belong to Israel. I am one of Abraham’s children, from the tribe of Benjamin.

The people were told they could leave the service. As Paul and Barnabas were going out of the synagogue, they were asked to say more about these things on the next Sabbath day. Many Jews and Gentiles who had converted to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, and they talked with them and encouraged them to keep living in God’s grace.

He will come and kill them and give the vineyard to others.” When the people heard this, they said, “We hope this never happens!”
