The first angel blew his trumpet, and hail and fire mixed with blood were thrown down onto the earth. A third of the earth was burned up, a third of the trees were burned up, and all of the green grass was burned up.

They were told not to harm the grass or any plant or tree, but only the people who didn’t have God’s official seal on their foreheads.

A third of all people were killed by the three plagues of fire, smoke, and sulfur that came out of the horses’ mouths.

Those four angels were being kept ready for this very hour and day and month and year. They were released to kill a third of all people.

Huge hailstones weighing about 100 pounds each fell from the sky and crushed anyone they hit. People spoke curses against God because the plague of hail was so terrible.

The first angel went and poured out his bowl on the land. Horrid, painful sores broke out on people who had the mark of the beast and who worshiped its statue.

The dragon’s tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and threw them down to the earth. The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to have a baby, because he wanted to devour her child the moment he was born.

I looked, and there in front of me was a pale horse! Its rider’s name was Death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a quarter of the world, to kill people with swords, hunger, sickness, and wild animals.

It is written, “All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers in the field. The grass dries up and the flowers fall to the ground,

The sun rises, and its burning heat dries up the plants. Their blossoms fall and their beauty is destroyed. In the same way, rich people will fade away even as they go about their business.

After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth. They were holding back the four winds of the earth and keeping them from blowing on the land or the sea or on any tree.
