You say, “I’m rich, I’ve become wealthy, and I don’t need anything.” But you don’t realize that you’re pitiful, miserable, poor, blind, and naked.

‘I know that you’re suffering and that you’re poor—but you’re rich! I know how you’re being insulted by people who claim to be Jews but aren’t. They’re a synagogue of Satan.

What a terrible situation I’m in! Who will save me from this sin that brings death to my body?

He has filled with good things those who were hungry, but he has sent the rich away empty.

When Jesus heard this, he responded, “Those who are healthy don’t need a doctor. Sick people do.

“Look! I’m coming like a thief! Blessed is anyone who stays awake and keeps their clothes on. Then they’ll be ready, and they won’t be caught naked and be embarrassed.”

By the grace that has been given to me, I say to every one of you, don’t think of yourself more highly than you should. Have a reasonable view of yourself, based on the faith God has given to each of you.

But anyone who doesn’t take on these qualities is seeing only the present. They’re blind to the past, forgetting all their sins that have been washed away.

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, because the kingdom of heaven belongs to them.

“But woe to you who are rich! You’ve already had your easy life.

Brothers and sisters, here’s a mystery I want you to understand. It will keep you from being proud. Part of Israel has refused to obey God, and that will continue until the full number of Gentiles has entered God’s kingdom.

That’s true. But they were broken off because they didn’t believe. You stand only because you do believe. So don’t be proud; be careful.

But you’re lukewarm—you’re not hot or cold. So I’m going to spit you out of my mouth.
