In a loud voice he said, “Show respect for God and give him glory, because the time has come for him to judge. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and the springs of water.”
Lord, who won’t show you respect and bring glory to your name? You alone are holy. All nations will come and worship you, because they’ll see that the things you do are right.”
The nations were angry, and the time for your anger has come. The time has come to judge the dead and to reward your servants the prophets and the saints who honor you, both great and small, and to destroy those who destroy the earth.”
“You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, because you created all things, and by your will they were created and came into existence.”
At that same time there was a powerful earthquake, and a tenth of the city collapsed. In the earthquake, 7,000 people were killed. Those who lived through it were terrified and gave glory to the God of heaven.
They’ll be terrified by her suffering, and they’ll stand far away from her and cry out, “ ‘Woe! Woe to you, great city, you mighty city of Babylon! In just one hour you’ve been destroyed!’
They were burned by the blazing heat, and they spoke curses against the name of God, who had power over these plagues. But they refused to turn away from their sins and admit that God was right.
“Friends, why are you doing this? We’re only human, just like you. We’re bringing you good news, telling you to turn away from these worthless things to the living God. He’s the one who made the heavens, the earth, and the sea and everything in them.
Then a voice came from the throne. It said, “Praise our God, all you who serve him! Praise God, all you who have respect for him, both great and small!”
The third angel blew his trumpet, and a great star that looked like a blazing torch fell from the sky. It fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water.
They’ll throw dust on their heads and weep and mourn and cry out, “ ‘Woe! Woe to you, great city! All who had ships on the sea became rich because of her wealth! In just one hour she has been destroyed!’
