The first beast had given the second beast the power to perform these signs, and by these signs, the second beast tricked those who live on the earth. The second beast ordered people to set up a statue to honor the first beast. The first beast was the one who’d been wounded by a sword but had survived.

But the beast was captured, along with the false prophet who’d done signs for the beast. With those signs the false prophet had deceived those who’d received the mark of the beast and worshiped its statue. The second beast was allowed to breathe life into this statue so that it could speak and kill anyone who refused to worship it.
