The jealous ones are preaching about Christ out of selfish ambition; they’re not doing it sincerely. They think they can create trouble for me while I’m being held in chains.

Don’t try to get ahead of others, and don’t think you’re better than they are. Instead, be humble and honor others more than yourselves.

It’s right for me to feel this way about all of you. You have a special place in my heart. Whether I’m being held in chains or standing up for the truth of the good news, either way, all of you share together in God’s grace with me.

The first time I was put on trial, no one came to help me. Everyone deserted me. I hope they’ll be forgiven for it.

I was appointed to be a messenger and an apostle to preach the good news. (I’m telling the truth; I’m not lying.) God appointed me to be a true and faithful teacher of the Gentiles.

At this point Festus interrupted Paul’s speech. “You’re out of your mind, Paul!” he shouted. “Your great learning is making you crazy!”

Agrippa said to Paul, “You may now speak for yourself.” So Paul, gesturing with his hands, began to present his case.

“Brothers and fathers,” Paul said, “listen to me now. I want to explain my actions.”

But make up your mind not to worry ahead of time about how to defend yourselves.

But God will pour out his great anger on the ones who only look out for themselves, who don’t accept the truth, and who do wrong.

But what does it matter? The important thing is that whether for good reasons or bad ones, Christ is being preached. And that makes me very glad. And I’ll continue to be glad,

and I’m suffering for it like a criminal in these chains. But God’s word isn’t being held back by chains.
