While there is a log in your own eye, how can you say to your friend, ‘Let me take the bit of sawdust out of your eye’? Hypocrite! First take the piece of wood out of your own eye, and then you’ll be able to see clearly to take the bit of sawdust out of your friend’s eye.

The Lord responded, “You’re such hypocrites! Doesn’t each of you go to the barn and untie your ox or donkey on the Sabbath day, and don’t you then lead it out and give it water?

Jesus responded, “You’ll certainly apply this saying to me: ‘Doctor, heal yourself!’ And by that you’ll mean, ‘We want you to do here in your hometown the things we’ve heard you did in Capernaum.’ ”

But Jesus knew they had bad motives for asking. He said, “You hypocrites! Why are you trying to trap me?

How can it be that you can understand the meaning of the appearance of the earth and sky, but you can’t understand the meaning of what’s happening right now?

One day an evil spirit answered them, “I know Jesus, and I know about Paul, but who are you?”

“Why do you look at the bit of sawdust in your friend’s eye but pay no attention to the chunk of wood in your own eye?

How can you say to your friend, ‘Let me take the bit of sawdust out of your eye,’ when there’s a log in your own eye?

“Don’t give holy things to dogs, and don’t throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may stomp all over them and then turn around and tear you to pieces.
