Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be content with what you have, because God has said, “I’ll never leave you; I’ll never abandon you.”

“That’s what it will be like for people who store up things for themselves but who aren’t rich as far as God is concerned.”

When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You are still missing one thing. Sell everything you have, give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come and follow me.”

Command people who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to put their hope in riches, which are so uncertain. Tell them to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.

So sell what you own and give to the poor. That will be like putting your money in a bag that will never wear out. Store up your riches in heaven, where they can never be used up, where no thief can get near them and no moth can destroy them.

Jesus looked at him and said, “How hard it is for rich people to enter God’s kingdom!

Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go and sell everything you have. Give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come and follow me.”

Instead, make sure you have a lot of riches in heaven, because moths and pests can’t destroy anything there, and thieves can’t break in and steal anything.

But understand this: If the owner of a house knew when a burglar was coming, he wouldn’t let him break into his house.
