But I tell you that anyone who loses their temper with a brother or sister will answer for it in court. Anyone who speaks scornfully to a brother or sister will face the council of elders. And anyone who dismisses someone as worthless will be in danger of the fire in hell.

If someone claims to be in the light, but they hate a brother or sister, then they’re really still in the darkness.

The tongue is also a fire. It’s like an evil world of its own, right inside our bodies. It corrupts the entire body, and it sets a person’s whole life on fire, from start to finish. And the tongue itself is set on fire by hell.

Tell them not to say bad things about anybody but to live in peace, consider the needs of others, and always be gentle toward everyone.

Don’t be afraid of those who kill the body but can’t kill the soul. Instead, be afraid of the one who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

“That’s how my Father in heaven will treat each of you if you don’t forgive your brother or sister from your heart.”

If someone does something wrong to you or insults you, don’t do the same thing to them. Instead, respond with kind words. This is what God wants you to do so that you can receive a blessing.

Love one another deeply. Honor one another more than yourselves.

People shouted at him and insulted him, but he didn’t do the same thing back to them. He didn’t threaten to get revenge against the people who were making him suffer. Instead, he trusted in God, who judges fairly.

Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times should I forgive a brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?”

But even Michael, the leader of the angels, didn’t dare to say anything insulting about the devil. They were arguing about who would get the body of Moses. Michael just said, “May the Lord stop you!”

Here’s how you can tell the difference between God’s children and the devil’s children. Anyone who doesn’t do what is right isn’t God’s child, and anyone who doesn’t love their brother or sister isn’t God’s child either.

A group of Epicurean and Stoic thinkers began to argue with him. Some of them asked, “What is this person blabbing on about?” Others said, “He seems to be talking about gods we’ve never heard of.” They said this because Paul was preaching the good news about Jesus and saying that he’d risen from the dead.

None of you should sin against your brother or sister by doing that. You shouldn’t take advantage of your brother or sister. The Lord will punish everyone who commits sins like those. We’ve already told you and warned you about that.

The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin (the council of elders) were looking for evidence against Jesus so they could put him to death. But they didn’t find anything they could use.

The chief priests and the whole council of elders, called the Sanhedrin, were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death.

Then the chief priests and the Pharisees called a meeting of the Sanhedrin, the council of elders. They asked, “What are we supposed to do with this man? He’s performing many signs.

Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death.

“This is the same Moses who said to the Israelites, ‘God will send you a prophet like me who will come from your own people.’

Let me tell you who you should be afraid of: the one who has the authority to throw you into hell after you’ve been killed. Yes, I tell you, be afraid of him.

But I tell you, love your enemies, and pray for those who hurt you.

But I tell you, don’t make any promises like that. Don’t make them in the name of heaven, because that’s God’s throne.

A voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son. I’m very pleased with him.”

If you see any brother or sister commit a sin that doesn’t lead to death, then you should pray for them, and God will give them life. I’m talking about someone whose sin doesn’t lead to death. There is a sin that does lead to death. I’m not saying you should pray about that.

You foolish person, do you want proof that faith that doesn’t take action is useless?

So make sure that you don’t disobey the one who’s speaking to you now. If they didn’t escape when they disobeyed the one who warned them on earth, how much less will we escape if we disobey the one who’s warning us from heaven!

Once he had been made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him.

or thieves or greedy people, or those who are often drunk or tell lies or cheat, will not inherit God’s kingdom.

so that they’re taking each other to court instead, in front of unbelievers?

They brought the apostles in to the Sanhedrin, and the high priest questioned them.

This has happened to make what’s written in their Law come true. It says, ‘They hated me without any reason.’

The Jews answered Jesus, “Aren’t we right to say that you’re a Samaritan and controlled by a demon?”

“You’re controlled by a demon!” the crowd answered. “Who’s trying to kill you?”

Very early in the morning, the chief priests agreed on a verdict with the elders, the teachers of the law, and the whole Sanhedrin. They tied Jesus up, took him away, and turned him over to Pilate.

“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Go away from me, you who are cursed, into the fire that burns forever that has been prepared for the devil and his angels!

“You nest of poisonous snakes! How will you escape being sentenced to hell?

“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees! You hypocrites! You travel by land and sea to win one person to your way of living, but then you make them twice as much a child of hell as you are.

While Peter was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them. A voice from the cloud said, “This is my beloved Son, and I’m very pleased with him. Listen to him!”

But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, “This man drives out demons by the power of Beelzebul, the prince of demons.”

Be careful who you trust! You’ll be turned over to the local courts and whipped in the synagogues.

At dawn the council of the elders of the people, which included the chief priests and teachers of the law, gathered together. Jesus was led before the council.

They ordered Peter and John to leave the meeting; they wanted to talk things over among themselves.

The apostles went into the temple courtyard early the next day, as they had been told, and they began to teach the people. The high priest and his friends arrived at the temple and called together the assembly of all the elders of Israel, the Sanhedrin. They sent their officers to the jail to get the apostles,

This upset the people and the elders and the teachers of the law. They arrested Stephen and brought him to the Sanhedrin.

All the members of the Sanhedrin looked right at Stephen and saw that his face had become like the face of an angel.

The commander wanted to find out exactly what the Jews were accusing Paul of doing. So the next day he brought Paul out of prison and ordered the chief priests and all the members of the Sanhedrin to meet together. Then he led Paul in and had him stand in front of them.

Paul looked straight at the Sanhedrin. “My brothers,” he said, “I’ve always done my duty to God. To this day I feel that I have done nothing wrong.”

Or the Jews who are here should tell you if I was found guilty of any crime when I was put on trial by the Sanhedrin.
