“Blessed are you when, because of me, people insult you and attack you and falsely accuse you of doing all kinds of bad things.

If people insult you because of the name of Christ, then you’re blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.

and everyone will hate you because of me.

Though we’re alive, we’re always threatened by death because we’re serving Jesus. This happens so that his life can be shown in our earthly bodies.

We’re fools for Christ, but you’re so wise in Christ! We’re weak, but you’re so strong! You are honored, but we’re looked down on!

It is written, “Because of you, we face death all day long. We’re regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”

“But before all this, people will arrest you and systematically oppress you. They will hand you over to synagogues and put you in prison. You will be brought to kings and governors. All this will happen to you because of my name,

Whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it.

It’s enough for students to be like their teachers and for slaves to be like their masters. If the head of the household has been called Beelzebul, the prince of demons, what should the others who live in the house expect to be called?

“Look out—you’ll be handed over to the local courts, and you’ll be whipped in the synagogues. You’ll be brought in for questioning by governors and kings because of me. But in that way, you’ll become witnesses to them.

People who were passing by shouted insults at Jesus and made fun of him. They shook their heads

But because they have no roots, they last only a short time. When trouble or suffering comes because of the message, they quickly fall away from the faith.

You’ll be put on trial before governors and kings because of me, as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles.

Then they started to insult him. “You’re this man’s disciple,” they said, “but we’re disciples of Moses!

You’ve been given the privilege, for the sake of Christ, not only of believing in him but also of suffering for him.
