One day Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee. There he saw two brothers, Simon, who was later called Peter, and his brother Andrew. They were throwing a net into the lake, because they were fishermen.

Here are the names of the 12 apostles. First, Simon (also called Peter) and his brother Andrew; then James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John;

Simon, whom Jesus named Peter, and his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew,

I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock, I will build my church. The gates of Hades won’t be too strong for it.

Jesus left there and walked along the Sea of Galilee. Then he went up on a mountainside and sat down.

Some time after this, Jesus crossed over to the other side of the Sea of Galilee. (It’s also known as the Sea of Tiberias.)

After this Jesus appeared to his disciples again by the Sea of Tiberias (that is, the Sea of Galilee). Here’s what happened.

Another of his disciples spoke up. It was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. He said,

Then Jesus left the area of Tyre and went through Sidon, down to the Sea of Galilee, and into the area known as the Ten Cities.

“Come and follow me,” Jesus told them, “and I’ll send you out to fish for people.”
