From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Turn away from your sins, because the kingdom of heaven is near.”

“The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God is near! Repent and believe the good news.”

and his followers will preach in his name. They will tell others to turn away from their sins and be forgiven. People from every nation will hear about this, beginning in Jerusalem.

May your kingdom come— may your will be done on earth as it already is done in heaven.

Godly sadness causes us to turn away from our sins and be saved. And we’re certainly not sorry about that! But worldly sadness brings death.

As you go, preach this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven is near.’

So turn away from your sins and turn to God so that your sins may be wiped away. Then the time will come when the Lord makes everything new.

I tell you, it’s the same in heaven. There’s celebration in heaven over one sinner who turns away from sin.”

No, I’m telling you. Unless you turn away from your sins, you will all die too.

But if I drive out demons by the finger of God, then God’s kingdom has come upon you.

The Lord isn’t slow to keep his promise, not slow in the way some people understand it. Instead, he’s being patient with you. He doesn’t want anyone to be destroyed. He wants everyone to turn away from their sins.

In the past, God didn’t judge people for what they didn’t know, but now he commands all people everywhere to turn away from their sins.

When they heard this, they didn’t question or criticize Peter any longer. Instead, they praised God and said, “So then, God has allowed even Gentiles to turn away from their sins and find life!”

Peter replied, “Turn away from your sins and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then your sins will be forgiven, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus looked at his disciples and said to them, “Blessed are you who are poor, because God’s kingdom belongs to you.

He said to them, “Every teacher of the law who has become a disciple in the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings new treasures out of his storeroom along with the old ones.”

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake. It caught all kinds of fish.

Jesus told them one more story. “The kingdom of heaven is like yeast,” he said. “A woman mixed it into 60 pounds of flour, and the yeast worked its way through all of that dough.”

The people of Nineveh will stand up on judgment day with this generation and show that it’s guilty. They turned away from their sins when Jonah preached to them, and now something greater than Jonah is here.

If anyone opposes them, they must correct them gently, hoping that God will give them a change of heart and lead them to know the truth.

He has saved us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves.

I told both Jews and Greeks that they had to turn away from their sins to God and have faith in our Lord Jesus.

I tell you, it will be the same in heaven. There will be more celebration for one sinner who turns away from sin than for 99 godly people who don’t have sins they need to turn away from.

I tell you, they were not! But unless you turn away from your sins, you will all die too.”

Then he sent them out to announce God’s kingdom and heal those who were sick.

They went out and preached that people should turn away from their sins.

These words of the prophet Isaiah came true when John the Baptist appeared in the desert, preaching that people should seek God’s forgiveness by being baptized and turning away from their sins.

Blessed are those who suffer for the sake of justice, because the kingdom of heaven is theirs.

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, because the kingdom of heaven belongs to them.

I’ve given her time to turn away from her sinful ways, but she refuses.

Jesus told the crowd another story. He said, “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and planted in a field.

He answered, “Because they aren’t being given the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven the way you are.

So be concerned about the kingdom of God first, and do what he wants you to do, and all those things will also be given to you.

Think about how far you’ve fallen! Realize how you’ve gone wrong, and go back to the things you were doing at first. If you don’t, I’ll come and take your lampstand away.

So let’s move on beyond the basic teachings about Christ and grow up as believers. Let’s not start all over from the beginning. We already know that we need to turn away from doing things that lead to death. We know that we must have faith in God.

I preached first to the people in Damascus, and then to those in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and then to the Gentiles. I told them to give up their sins and turn to God and to show they’d done this by the way they lived.

“The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son.

“This is what the kingdom of heaven will be like at that time. Ten bridesmaids took their lamps and went outside the bride’s house to wait for the groom to come and get her.

“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees! You hypocrites! You shut the door of the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces. You don’t enter yourselves, but you won’t let in other people who are trying to enter.

“The kingdom of heaven is like the manager of an estate who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard.

“The kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to collect all the money his servants owed him.

Jesus then began to speak against the towns where he’d done most of his miracles, because the people there hadn’t turned away from their sins.

In the same way, when you see these things happening, you will know that God’s kingdom is near.

“ ‘They won’t, father Abraham,’ he said. ‘But if someone from the dead goes to them, then they will turn away from their sins.’

“Again, here is what the kingdom of heaven will be like. A man was going on a journey. He sent for his slaves and put them in charge of his money. The man gave each slave an amount of money he knew the slave could manage.

Jesus told the crowd another story. He said, “Here’s what the kingdom of heaven is like. A man planted good seed in his field.

Jesus went all over Galilee, teaching in the synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every illness and sickness that the people had.

He will bring many of the people of Israel back to the Lord their God. Having the same spirit and power as Elijah, he will go ahead of the Lord, creating peace between parents and their children and teaching people who are disobeying to be wise and do what is right.
