Jesus answered, “Please agree to this. It’s right for us to do everything that God is asking of people now.” So then John agreed.
“My food,” Jesus said, “is to do what my Father sent me to do and to finish his work.
If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love. In the same way, I have obeyed my Father’s commands and I remain in his love.
I’ve given you an example. You should do as I have done for you.
Anyone who claims to belong to him must live just as Jesus did.
Both of them did what was right in God’s sight; they obeyed all of the Lord’s commands and instructions faithfully.
The one who sent me is with me. He hasn’t left me alone, because I always do what pleases him.”
A high priest like him truly meets our needs. He’s holy, blameless, and pure, and he has been lifted up high above the heavens. He’s different from people who sin.
But John didn’t want to. He told Jesus, “I need to be baptized by you, so why are you coming to me?”
