“And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High God, because you will go ahead of the Lord to prepare the way for him,

Truly I tell you, no one greater than John the Baptist has ever been born in this world. But the one who’s least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he is.

“The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God is near! Repent and believe the good news.”

They replied, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and still others say Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

I mean starting from when John began baptizing right through to when Jesus was taken up from us. The one we choose must be a witness with us that Jesus rose from the dead.”

Then John’s messengers left, and Jesus began to speak to the crowd about him. He said, “What did you go out into the desert to see? Tall grass waving in the wind?

As John’s disciples were leaving, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John. “What did you go out into the desert to see?” he asked. “Tall grass waving in the wind? No?

If you have turned away from your sins, you have to live in a way that shows that.

John came to show you the right way, and you didn’t believe him. But the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. Even when you saw that, you didn’t turn away from your sins and believe him.

Long ago it was written, “I will send my messenger ahead of you, to prepare your way.”
