During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, with loud cries and tears he prayed to and pleaded with the God who could save him from death, and God listened to him because of his reverence.

At three o’clock in the afternoon, Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” (That means “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?”)

Jesus called out in a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” After he said this, he took his last breath.

When some of those who were standing there heard Jesus cry out, they said, “He’s calling for Elijah!”
