“He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save himself! He’s supposed to be the king of Israel. Let him come down from that cross, and we’ll believe in him!

Nathanael replied, “Rabbi, you’re the Son of God! You’re the king of Israel!”

Above his head they placed a written charge against him. It read, this is Jesus, the king of the jews.

The leaders could see the man who’d been healed standing there with them. So there was nothing for them to say.

“If a person hears my words but doesn’t obey them, I don’t judge that person. I didn’t come to judge the world, I came to save the world.

So they brought branches from palm trees and went out to meet him. They shouted, “Hosanna!” “Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Blessed is the king of Israel!”

The Pharisees called back in the man who’d been blind. “Give glory to God by telling the truth!” they said. “We know that man is a sinner.”

“Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!” “May there be peace and glory in the highest heaven!”

and asked, “Where is the child who has been born as the new king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose, and now we’ve come to worship him.”

and said, “So, you’re going to destroy the temple and build it again in three days? Then save yourself! Come down from the cross, if you’re the Son of God!”

In the same way the chief priests, teachers of the law, and elders made fun of him.

The chief priests and teachers of the law made fun of him in the same way. They said to each other, “He saved others, but he can’t save himself!

Let this Messiah, this king of Israel, come down from the cross now! If we see that, then we’ll believe.” Those who were being crucified with Jesus also insulted him.

The people stood there watching. The rulers even mocked Jesus, saying, “He saved others, let him save himself if he is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.”

and said, “If you are the king of the Jews, then save yourself.”
