Then he moved out to the gate that led into the courtyard. There another servant saw him and said to the people, “This man was with Jesus of Nazareth.”

After that, Judas from Galilee came along, in the days when the Romans made everyone register to pay taxes. Judas started a revolt, but he too was killed, and all his followers were scattered.

They answered, “Are you from Galilee too? Look into it—you’ll find that no prophet is going to come out of Galilee.”

Others said, “He’s the Messiah.” Still others asked, “How can the Messiah come from Galilee?

“Nazareth!” Nathanael responded. “Can anything good come from there?” “Come and see,” Philip answered.

Peter had followed Jesus from a distance, and now he came as close as the courtyard. He went in and sat down with the guards to see what would happen.

Then the chief priests and elders of the people met in the palace of Caiaphas, the high priest.

The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.”

But Peter denied it in front of everyone. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he insisted.
