But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to him, “Tell us, under oath to the living God, whether you are the Messiah, the Son of God.”

Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

But when the chief priests and the elders brought their charges against him, he didn’t respond.

But these signs have been written down so that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing, you may have life in his name.

He went back inside the palace and asked Jesus, “Where do you come from?” But Jesus didn’t answer him.

The Jewish leaders replied, “We have a law, and according to that law he must die, because he claimed to be the Son of God.”

“So you’re a king, then!” said Pilate. Jesus answered, “You say that I’m a king. The reason I was born and came into the world was to be a witness to the truth. Everyone who is on the side of truth listens to me.”

then what about the one the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why do you accuse me of doing wrong because I said, ‘I am God’s Son’?

I and the Father are one.”

The Jewish leaders surrounded him and demanded, “How long are you going to keep us in suspense? If you’re the Messiah, come right out and say so.”

“Who are you?” they asked. “Just what I’ve been telling you from the beginning,” Jesus replied.

We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.”

Nathanael replied, “Rabbi, you’re the Son of God! You’re the king of Israel!”

Now I’ve seen that, and I’m a witness that this is God’s Chosen One.”

But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer. So the high priest asked him directly, “Are you the Messiah? Are you the Son of the Blessed One?”

When the Roman commander and those who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and everything that had happened, they were terrified and exclaimed, “He had to be the Son of God!”

He trusts in God; let God rescue him now, if he’s so pleased with him. After all, he said, ‘I’m the Son of God.’ ”

and said, “So, you’re going to destroy the temple and build it again in three days? Then save yourself! Come down from the cross, if you’re the Son of God!”

But Jesus didn’t answer a single charge. The governor was amazed.

People shouted at him and insulted him, but he didn’t do the same thing back to them. He didn’t threaten to get revenge against the people who were making him suffer. Instead, he trusted in God, who judges fairly.

The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

Then the high priest stood up to question Jesus. “Aren’t you going to answer?” he asked. “What have you got to say to the charges these men are bringing against you?”

Silas, Timothy, and I preached to you about the Son of God, Jesus Christ, and he is not “Yes” and “No.” He’s always “Yes,”
