He answered, “Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, ‘The Teacher says, “My time is near. I’d like to celebrate the Passover at your house with my disciples.” ’ ”

So Jesus told them, “My time hasn’t come yet. For you, any time would be the right time.

After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed, “Father, the time has come. Bring glory to your Son so that your Son may bring glory to you.

It was just before the Passover Feast. Jesus knew that the time had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Jesus had always loved his disciples who were in the world, and he now loved them to the very end.

When he said this, they tried to arrest him. But no one laid a hand on him because his time hadn’t come yet.

You go to the feast. I’m not going up to this feast because my time hasn’t yet fully come.”

He responded, “The time has come for the Son of Man to receive glory.

Every day I was with you in the temple courtyard, yet you didn’t lay a hand on me. But this is your time, when darkness rules.”

After she said this, she went back home and called her sister Mary aside to speak with her. “The Teacher is here,” she said, “and he’s asking for you.”

While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” they told him. “Why bother the teacher anymore?”

“As you know, the Passover Feast is two days away. The Son of Man is going to be handed over to his enemies, and they will nail him to a cross.”

And you shouldn’t be called ‘master,’ because you have only one Master, and he’s the Messiah.

“But you shouldn’t be called ‘Rabbi,’ because you have only one Teacher, and you are all brothers.

If anyone says anything to you, tell them, ‘The Lord needs them.’ The owner will send them right away.”

Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned toward him and cried out in the Hebrew language, “Rabboni!” (That means Teacher.)

Judas went right over to Jesus and said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” Then he kissed him.

So the disciples did what Jesus told them to do, and they prepared the Passover meal.
