So always keep watching. Pray that you will be able to escape all that is about to happen, and pray that you will be able to stand before the Son of Man.”

So let’s not be like the others, who are asleep. Instead, let’s be wide awake and sober.

“So keep watch. You don’t know the day or the hour when the groom will arrive.

“Look! I’m coming like a thief! Blessed is anyone who stays awake and keeps their clothes on. Then they’ll be ready, and they won’t be caught naked and be embarrassed.”

Be on your guard, remain strong in the faith, be brave,

“But no one knows what day or time this will happen. The angels in heaven don’t even know, and the Son doesn’t know either—only the Father knows.

When you do these things, keep in mind the times we’re living in. The time has already come for you to wake up from your sleep. The full effects of our salvation are closer now than when we first believed in Christ.

So you must also be ready, because the Son of Man will come at a time when you aren’t expecting him.

Be alert and stay sober. Your enemy the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion looking for something to kill and eat.

The end of all things is near. So be alert and stay sober so that you can pray.

But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the robber was coming, he would have kept watch. He wouldn’t have let his house be broken into.

“So they went off to buy oil, and while they were away, the groom arrived. The bridesmaids who were ready went in with him to the wedding dinner. Then the door was shut.

“Be careful, or your hearts will be loaded down with partying, drunkenness, and the worries of life. Then the day when the Son of Man returns will close on you suddenly like a trap.
