“Do you hear what these children are saying?” they asked him. “Yes,” replied Jesus. “Haven’t you ever read about it in Scripture? It says, “ ‘Even from children and infants, Lord, you will receive praise.’ ”

Jesus answered, “Haven’t you read about what David did when he and his men were hungry?

Jesus said to them, “Haven’t you ever read this in the Scriptures? “ ‘The stone the builders wouldn’t accept has become the most important stone of all. The Lord has done this, and it’s wonderful in our eyes.’

Scripture says, ‘I want mercy and not sacrifice.’ If you knew what those words meant, you wouldn’t have accused people who were innocent.

Go and learn what this means, ‘I want mercy and not sacrifice.’ I haven’t come to call those who are right with God. I’ve come for sinners.”

When the dead rise, people won’t get married, and parents won’t arrange marriages for their children. Everyone will be like the angels in heaven.

‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ He isn’t the God of the dead; he’s the God of the living.”
