If we feel guilty in our hearts, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.

Anyone who believes in him is not judged, but anyone who doesn’t believe is already judged, because they haven’t believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.

John was a witness for him. He cried out and said, “This is the one I was talking about when I said, ‘Someone is coming after me who came before me, because he was there before me.’ ”

They talked it over among themselves and realized, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he’ll ask, ‘Then why didn’t you believe him?’

There was a man sent from God whose name was John.

The disciples talked this over among themselves and decided, “He must be saying this because we didn’t bring any bread.”

Jesus answered, “I’ll ask you a question too. If you answer me, I’ll tell you by what authority I’m doing these things.

But if we say, ‘On human authority,’ who knows what the people might do to us? They all believe that John was a prophet.”

But they didn’t say anything. So Jesus took hold of the man, healed him, and sent him on his way.
