Jesus went into the temple courtyard and started teaching there. The chief priests and elders of the people came up to him and asked, “By what authority are you doing these things? Who gave you this authority?”

They brought Peter and John in so they could question them. “By what power did you do this?” they asked. “And in whose name?”

Every day Jesus was teaching at the temple. The chief priests, the teachers of the law, and the leaders among the people were trying to kill him.

Then Jesus asked the crowd, “Why did you come here with swords and clubs to capture me, as if I’d been leading a rebellion? I was in the temple courtyard every day teaching, but you didn’t try to arrest me.

“But one man, who was hurting the other one, pushed Moses aside. He said, ‘Who made you a ruler and judge over us?

Jesus answered, “I’ll ask you a question too. If you answer me, I’ll tell you by what authority I’m doing these things.

Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him. They wanted him to admire the temple buildings.

One day Jesus was teaching the people in the temple courtyard and announcing the good news to them. The chief priests, the teachers of the law, and the elders came up to him.

He told them, ‘You also go and work in my vineyard, and I’ll pay you what’s fair.’
