“The manager answered one of them, ‘I’m not being unfair to you, my friend. Didn’t you agree to work for the usual day’s pay?

Jesus responded, “Do what you came to do, friend.” Then some of the men moved forward to grab Jesus and arrest him.

‘Friend,’ he said, ‘how’d you get in here without wedding clothes?’ But the man had no excuses.

But who are you, a mere human being, to talk back to God? “Can a clay pot say to the one who made it, ‘Why did you make me like this?’ ”

He agreed to give them the usual pay for a day’s work, and he sent them into the vineyard.

Take your money and go. I want to give the ones I hired last the same pay I gave you.
