In fact, I consider everything to be worthless compared with knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. Knowing him is worth much more than anything else. Because of him I’ve lost everything, but I look at it all as garbage so that I can know Christ better.

So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything, and followed him.

Peter said to him, “We’ve left everything we had in order to follow you!”

But he answered his father, ‘Look! All these years I’ve worked like a slave for you. I’ve always obeyed your orders. But you’ve never given me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends.

Then Peter spoke up. “We’ve left everything to follow you!” he said.

As he was walking along, he saw Levi, the son of Alphaeus, sitting at a tax collection booth. “Follow me,” Jesus told him. Levi got up and followed him.

You have to ask the same kind of question, because if you don’t give up everything you have, you can’t be my disciple.

As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at a tax collection booth. “Follow me,” Jesus told him. So Matthew got up and followed him.

Who thinks you’re different from anyone else? What do you have that wasn’t given to you? And if it was given to you, why do you brag as though it came from you?

That way no one can brag to God about who or what they are.

Jesus looked at them and said, “With people, it’s impossible, but with God, all things are possible.”

Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, when all things are made new and the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, then you who have followed me will also sit on 12 thrones, judging the 12 tribes of Israel.
