Whoever becomes humble like this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

All who lift themselves up will be humbled, but those who humble themselves will be lifted up.”

Don’t be like that. Instead, any of you who wants to be great among you must become your servant,

Then he told them, “Anyone who welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. The one who is considered least important among you is the most important of all.”

In the same way, you who are younger should follow the lead of your elders. All of you should have a humble attitude toward one another, because Scripture says, “God opposes those who are proud, but he gives grace to those who are humble.”

At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked him, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”

Jesus then said, “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you’ll never enter the kingdom of heaven.

And anyone who welcomes a child like this one in my name welcomes me.

Nobody said anything because they’d been arguing on the way about which one of them was the greatest.
