If they still refuse to listen, then tell it to the community of believers. And if they refuse to listen even to the community, then treat them the way you would treat an unbeliever or a traitor.
Brothers and sisters, we command you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ to keep away from every believer who’s lazy and disruptive and who doesn’t follow the teaching you received from us.
It causes trouble all the time between people whose minds are twisted by sin. They once knew the truth, but it has been taken away from them. They think they can get rich by being godly.
But when the Son of Man came, he did eat and drink the way most people do, and you said, ‘He’s always eating and drinking too much. He’s a friend of tax collectors and “sinners.” ’ But wisdom is proved right by its own actions.”
The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed, ‘God, I thank you that I’m not like other people—not like robbers, or people who do other evil things, or those who commit adultery, or even like this tax collector.
And when you pray, don’t keep talking on and on like the people who worship other gods. They think their prayers will be answered because they’ve talked so much.
When one of you is in a dispute with another believer, how dare you take them to court to be judged by ungodly people! Why don’t you ask the Lord’s people to help you settle it?
