The Pharisees and Sadducees came to test Jesus by asking him to show them a sign from heaven.

Others tested him by asking for a sign from heaven.

While Peter and John were still speaking to the people, the priests, the captain of the temple guard, and the Sadducees came up to them.

“Be careful,” Jesus said to them. “Watch out for the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”

Jews want to see signs and Greeks look for wisdom,

They were trying to trap Jesus with that question, so they’d have a reason to bring charges against him. But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger.

The high priest and his friends, who were all Sadducees, were jealous of the apostles.

Some of the Sadducees, who don’t believe that people rise from the dead, came to Jesus with a question.

Jesus knew they were trying to trick him, and he said to them,

One day an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to have eternal life?”

But Jesus knew they had bad motives for asking. He said, “You hypocrites! Why are you trying to trap me?

The Pharisees went out and made a plan to trap Jesus with his own words.

Some Pharisees came to test Jesus. They asked, “Does the Law allow a man to divorce his wife for any reason he wants?”

Some Pharisees and teachers of the law came from Jerusalem to see Jesus. They complained,

But the Pharisees went out and started making plans to kill Jesus.

When the Pharisees saw this, they asked the disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

I tell you, unless your righteousness is even better than the righteousness of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you won’t enter the kingdom of heaven.
